Life Cover FAQs
Will my existing Guaranteed Mortgage Protection or Guaranteed Term Protection policy change as a result of COVID-19?
No, your policy will not change as a result of COVID-19.
Will you pay out on a Guaranteed Mortgage Protection or Guaranteed Term policy if I die due to COVID-19?
There is no COVID-19 exclusion on any of our policies.
Will you pay out for Serious Illness if I get COVID-19?
COVID-19 or the coronavirus is not a specified ‘Serious
Illness’ on our policy. The good news is that the vast majority of people who
contract the illness will make a full recovery. In some cases, people do die as
a result, and in such circumstances, if your serious illness policy includes
life cover then the plan would pay out.
Can I reduce my premium during the COVID-19 pandemic to the minimum premium?
It is possible to reduce the premium on your policy by
reducing your benefits. However, if you wish to increase your benefits again in
the future you may be asked to complete a medical questionnaire.
When applying for Guaranteed Mortgage Protection or Guaranteed Term Protection will I need to advise Zurich if I have tested positive for COVID-19 or if I am awaiting test results for COVID-19?
Yes, when completing the application you will be required to
submit a COVID-19 questionnaire. For people who have tested positive for
COVID-19 and have not yet recovered, we are likely to postpone offering terms,
however, we will apply underwriting criteria and each case will be considered
on an individual basis.
Can I skip payments on my Guaranteed Mortgage Protection or Guaranteed Term Protection policy during the COVID-19 outbreak?
With Zurich’s Reinstatement Clause, if you are unable to pay your premiums, you can reinstate your policy within three months of the date your first unpaid premium was due. This means that you can ensure that you remain on cover, and you will not be asked any medical questions, provided that you did not instruct us to cancel your cover. You will need to pay all the missed premiums within the three month period, to reinstate your policy.
