Accessibility Statement

Our services

Zurich offers a wide range of life and non-life insurance products in Ireland. Zurich Life Assurance plc is one of Ireland's most successful life insurance companies, offering a full range of pension, investment and protection products. Zurich Insurance Europe AG is one of Ireland’s leading general insurance companies offering a wide range of non-life insurance products including motor, home, commercial and farm insurance. In this accessibility statement, the word Zurich refers to both Zurich Life Assurance plc and Zurich Insurance Europe AG.

This accessibility statement applies to online services which enable customers to purchase or obtain quotes for some of the above products at www.zurich.ie and receive related services. These are e-commerce services under the European Union (Accessibility Requirements of Products and Services) Regulations 2023 (the EAA).

Zurich’s commitment

Zurich is committed to making our services available to as many people as possible including persons with disabilities in accordance with the EAA.

You can read more about the accessibility requirements which apply to e-commerce services under the EAA below.

In implementing these requirements with the assistance of external partners, Zurich has been guided by Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (Version 2.2).  These international best practice Guidelines make recommendations designed to improve online accessibility for a wide range of people with disabilities.

We have made some key enhancements across our e-commerce services to support more inclusive access.  Below are examples of areas we have improved:

Skip to content link: A ‘skip to content’ feature is now functional across many webpages. This allows keyboard users to bypass repeated navigation menus and quickly access the main content.

Image alt text and aria labels: We’ve added descriptive alt attributes and aria labelling to images and icons wherever possible to ensure that users of screen readers can understand visual content.

Heading hierarchy: Page content has been restructured to follow a logical heading hierarchy (<h1>, <h2>, etc.), enhancing readability and navigation for users relying on assistive technologies.

Colour contrast: Content has been reviewed to ensure it meets recommended contrast ratios, aiding users with visual impairments in distinguishing page elements.

Descriptive link labelling: We’ve improved link text across the site so users understand where each link will lead, even when read out of context by a screen reader.

Cross-device compatibility: Layout and navigation have been tested across different operating systems and devices to maintain consistency and accessibility for users on mobile, desktop, and various browsers.

Screen reader support: Significant effort has gone into improving screen reader compatibility. Many components now include aria roles, labels, and landmark regions to enhance support. We are committed to continuous enhancement in how we support screen readers and welcome feedback to help us do better.

Zurich is committed to monitoring and continually improving our services and ensuring they meet the accessibility requirements of the EAA. In doing so, we will take into account any harmonised standards which may be published in the future under the EAA.
