How much cover is enough?
How much buildings insurance cover do I need is a common question many people ask and making sure that your property is adequately insured is crucial. Your home insurance usually covers both the building and your contents – we don’t sell buildings insurance by itself, unless you’re a landlord. When you insure your home, you should base your figure on the rebuilding cost and not the market value of your home. To be totally confident that your home is adequately insured, contact an independent surveyor, who will calculate the exact rebuilding cost of your home. We also have a rebuild calculator where you can calculate the rebuild cost. This calculator is based on information released by the Society of Chartered Surveyors and is intended as a guide only to give you an indication of the rebuilding cost of your house.
Zurich, in conjunction with our assistance company, provide an Emergency Helpline, to ensure that customers get the reassurance they need. In the event of a household emergency, all Zurich customers can avail of our 24 hour emergency assist helpline by calling 1890 208 408 or 01 609 1436. As a Zurich customer, you will be required to pay a call out fee to the relevant contractor. The contractor must provide you with a receipt. If work is required other than that which is catered for by payment of the call out fee, the contractor must provide you with a written estimate and an explanation of the work to be carried out. You are responsible for instructing the contractor to complete this work. Payment for this work must be collected directly from you. Please retain any damaged materials/goods in order to substantiate any future claim.
