What is renters insurance?
Renters insurance - sometimes also called rental insurance or tenants’ insurance - is a contents-only home insurance policy designer for tenants. It is for those who need contents cover but not buildings’ insurance.
How much does renters insurance cost?
As with the majority of insurance policies, the answer to the question: ‘what does rental insurance cost’ is dependent on the value of the renters’ contents. You can reduce the cost of your premium by taking a few simple measures such as fitting good quality locks and installing an alarm system.
How much renters cover do I need?
Again, this depends on the value of the items you want to cover. You can take out renters insurance to cover from a minimum of €10,000 in contents. It's easy to underestimate the value of all your household goods, from domestic appliances and furniture to personal belongings and valuables so take your time adding up the value of all the items you want covered in the policy. A handy tip is to go from room to room and list the items you want to insure, and if you have any receipts, these will help when adding everything up. It’s also advisable to keep valuations and photographs of any high valuable items.
What does renters insurance cover?
Renters insurance covers possessions or personal items that a renter would like to take with them if they were moving house. Anything that isn't a fixed feature of your rented home is covered under contents only insurance and is protected against loss, damage or theft. Items covered by home contents insurance include: furniture, clothes, electrical items, money and jewellery.
Renters’ home cover includes:
✔ Contents replacement – up to sum insured to repair or replace your contents as new.
✔ Replacing locks if the house keys are stolen.
✔ Unlimited cover for replacing food in freezer or fridge, if appliance breaks down or after a power failure.
✔ Temporary removal of contents.
✔ Alternative accommodation – if your home can’t be lived in following a claim.
✔ Tenant liability – your liability for damage to the landlord’s buildings.
✔ Legal Liability as owner or occupier of the home for bodily injury to domestic employees.
✔ Legal Liability as occupier of the home for bodily injury or loss of or damage to property.
✔ Personal Legal Liability
Additionally, our 24 hour Emergency Helpline is available to you should you need to report a claim (subject to policy T&Cs).
